orange cake and cupcakes

I have not posted for a while, just not been in the happiest of moods, lots of worries but you just have to "keep calm and carry on", don't you?

Today I felt happy, there has been quite a snowfall overnight and everything looks white and pretty and peaceful. The groceries are in and I didn't need to go out so decided to do some baking.

My friend gave me this lovely cupcake stand for my birthday ages ago and I decided to make some cupcakes. I didn't make enough cupcakes to fill the whole stand up but they looked great anyway.

I found some semi-dried strawberries when I cleaned out the cupboard a few days ago so I stuck these in the cupcakes and made a strawberry flavoured buttercream for the top with a few sparkly sprinkles. The photo didn't come out very well, not great lighting but the cupcakes had already been attacked when I discovered it so couldn't take another photo.

I also decided to make an orange cake from Mary Berry's ultimate cakebook. In her recipe she covers the cake with orange icing but I decided to cover the cake with a melted chocolate orange.

It looks lovely on my glass Ikea cake stand with the dome, which I love so much.
